chub

Tessa Silva

why is it more sustainable?

Chub is a hand-crafted vase made out of milk.

Skimmed milk is a by-product of the dairy industry and it normally just goes to waste these days. But in the past (before oil-plastic was invented), it was employed to make a plastic-like material without synthetic content. The process begins by extracting casein from milk leftovers. Casein is then turned into sheets that are pressed into the form of vases, bowls, and furniture pieces.

Skimmed milk is sourced from a local dairy farmer in the UK that treats its small number of cows with respect and consideration.
