why is it more sustainable?
Salandére is a set of hand-woven baskets made with straw and recycled clothes.
Both materials are sourced locally in Africa. Straw grows naturally near African swamps, whereas clothes are collected from the piles of garments discarded in other areas of the world and sent to Africa.
Besides giving new life to trashed fabric, these baskets highlight a big global issue – clothes overconsumption – showing how interior products can also help in tackling the effects of a problem that originates in the fashion industry.
With its products, EA-Déco values African traditional weaving skills. It also has opened a weaving school for young girls in African villages, creating an employment opportunity for them.
